Unexpected Turn

With just 4 weeks to go, we are now on a weekly schedule to visit the doctor. The appointments are usually a rather quick, routine visit but our 36 week appointment was a little different and, well, unexpected.

Of course I continue to play the "name that bump" game as I poke my belly but we got to actually see the baby's position after the doctor noticed the round, hard object in my ribs. Sure enough, iBaby is sitting upright in the breech position. After further observation, the doctor determined I am not a candidate for external cephalic version (where they manually flip the baby by pushing on your belly) so we have to schedule a c-section. Although it is nice to have a date and we'll be able to plan a little better, I thought we had more time which we can definitely use and a c-section isn't our preferred method of delivery. We haven't given up hope and continue to research different methods of getting the baby to flip positions but as long as everyone is healthy we really can't complain. We go back to the doctor on Thursday and maybe by then, with the help of some of these alternative methods, the baby will have flipped. It is pretty much a waiting game now.

Happy Father's Day

Before the storms moved in on Saturday, Mike and I went up with Chester River for a little dip and some fishing. The water was flat and warm which allowed for iBaby to take his/her first tubing ride. Mike wouldn't allow us to go fast but we had to reposition the boat a couple times while I was relaxing out on the tub. The air felt GREAT!





















On Sunday, we met up with Mike's family to celebrate Father's Day in Annapolis. Mike doesn't really consider himself a father yet (after all, he can't feel the baby moving around inside although I assure him all the time how real it is) but Granddad and Uncle Chris got to officially celebrate.

After lunch, we took a leisurely boat ride with Chris and Maggie. The day flew by and before we knew it, we were headed home to start another week. We only have a couple more weekends to enjoy on the shore so I have my fingers crossed that I continue to feel great and the weather cooperates. Less than 6 weeks till our due date :)

NASCAR

On Sunday, we drove to the Monster mile in Dover and attended our first NASCAR race. What a different way of life. I felt like we had entered the twilight zone. For those who haven't been it really is a piece of Americana...and on the way there we drove past a bald eagle in flight. You couldn't help but feel patriotic from the opening prayer to the national anthem and the F-16 fly over. The crowd was huge...I think 100K.

Couple things I did learn at the race:
1) You really need a radio or scanner so you know what is going on. With the earplugs (which are a necessity), you can't hear the announcer nor can you have a real conversation with your friends.

Typical conversation:
Me: I need to go to the bathroom again.
Mike: What?
Me: I have to go to the BATHROOM.
Mike: What?
Me: (Getting up and motioning to the stairs) I NEED TO PEE!!!
Mike: OK!

2) A little into the race you'll notice small black specs on every surface. These are tire remnants and they end up covering everything. I even had to protect my ice cream as I was eating it.

3) There are concession stands but from what I can tell most people just bring everything in coolers. (We bought a Dale Earnheart one on the drive in) So while the tickets aren't cheap, the fact that you can bring your own beer, water, and food you don't spend as much.

The way home was a different experience as well. In fact for about 15 miles on the drive home we passed yard after yard full of people waving and carrying signs. We couldn't quite understand what was going on...it just felt like we were in a parade. We think we figured out they were waiting for the trucks carrying the racecars to pass. (We stopped for crabs on the way home and on the bay bridge we passed the Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson trucks) Either way, it was quite the experience. I am just curious what iBaby thought of the race. I didn't see another pregnant woman the entire day and it seems like everywhere I go these days, there are several of us out there.
